What the law actually asks for
Article 4 of the EU AI Act has applied since 2 February 2025. It requires every company that uses or provides AI to take measures for a sufficient level of AI literacy. It prescribes no curriculum, no minimum number of hours and no exam.
What it also does not provide for is a fine. The penalty catalogue in Article 99 lists which breaches cost money, and Article 4 is not among them. The 35 million euros people like to quote belong to Article 5, the prohibited practices. Anyone threatening you with fines for missing training is selling you fear.
There are still good reasons. If someone causes damage using AI and had no training, the breach of duty is documented and lands with the management. More and more clients ask for the proof in tenders. And the most important reason is in no law: Teams who understand these tools do not paste customer data into free chatbots.
How it works
Preliminary call, 30 minutes
We work out which AI is in use, who works with it and whether you are a provider or only a deployer. After that the programme is set.
The training, half a day
Four hours with your team, on site or as a live video call. Fundamentals, rules, inventory, practice. At the end the policy is there, and it applies the next morning.
The file
Certificates, training record, policy and tool list arrive as PDFs. I answer follow-up questions by email for four weeks.
Common questions about the training
Is AI training mandatory?
Yes. Since 2 February 2025 Article 4 of the EU AI Act requires every company that uses or provides AI to make sure the people working with it understand it. This applies regardless of size or sector. The law does not prescribe a format, but there has to be a measure.
Is there a fine if I do nothing?
Not directly. The penalty catalogue in Article 99 lists which breaches cost money, and Article 4 is not among them. The 35 million euros people like to quote belong to Article 5, the prohibited practices. Anyone threatening you with fines for missing training is not telling you the truth.

Who needs to be trained?
Everyone who works with AI or decides about it. That is usually more people than expected. Anyone writing texts with an assistant counts, so does whoever looks after the chatbot on the website, and management in any case.
How often does training have to happen?
The law names no interval. Once a year makes sense, plus whenever the rules or the tools change materially. In 2026 alone there were two such moments: the transparency duties from 2 August and the Digital Omnibus of 27 July.
What proof do I get?
A certificate of attendance for each person, a one-page training record for your file, a completed AI policy for your company and a list of the AI tools in use. That is the part an audit wants to see.
Do I need this as a small business?
Yes. Article 4 has no lower threshold. For a small business the effort is small too: Half a day, and the file is complete.
What does the training cost?
I will name the price after a short preliminary call, depending on group size and location. It is fixed before you book.
On site or online?
Both. On site in the Rhine-Main area, anywhere in Germany or as a live video call. In every format at least 60 per cent is live. There are deliberately no recorded courses.
