bemailed: the newsletter tool I developed.
Servers in Frankfurt, a data processing agreement in every plan, an entry level that stays free. What bemailed does, what it costs and where it deliberately stops.
bemailed is a tool for newsletters. You collect recipients through a form on your website, write your email and afterwards see who opened and clicked it. It is run by my agency, Essential Advertising GmbH in Oberursel near Frankfurt.
The idea behind it is quickly told. Writing a newsletter should be as simple as it can be, so that companies stay in touch with their customers without effort. Everything else in the tool follows from that sentence.
Two hundred addresses beat two thousand followers
On Instagram or LinkedIn the platform decides who gets to see your post. If it changes its rules, you reach fewer people overnight. An email address stays with you.
That is why a newsletter pays off even with small lists. Two hundred people who gave you their address bring more than two thousand followers who never see your post.
Starting costs nothing
There are three plans and nothing hidden in between.
Plans
What bemailed costs
Three plans to click through.
0 € Free, permanently
Up to 250 recipients, up to 1,000 emails a month, 15 Smart Mail drafts. No credit card, no expiry date. A small line under the email mentions bemailed.
All figures from the pricing page. The bar only shows the order, it measures nothing.
Free is not a trial that runs out after two weeks. It is a plan that stays, and you do not need a credit card for it.
Every plan includes servers in Frankfurt, the data processing agreement, the report with opens, clicks and a country map as well as a deliverability check before you send. All figures are on the pricing page.
The price depends on how many recipients you have, not on how many emails you send. On Basic and Pro you can write as often as you like. Someone who sends once a quarter pays the same as someone who writes every week.
From a keyword to a finished newsletter
The point where most people give up is the blank page. You type in what it is about. Back comes a finished draft in the voice of your brand, which you can overwrite. How often you can do that per month depends on the plan: 15 times on Free, 50 on Basic, 150 on Pro. The feature is called Smart Mail.
You set colours, fonts and logo once, and every email looks that way from then on. If you already send a newsletter, upload a screenshot of your old email. The look is taken from that.
Before you send, a check runs over the draft. It flags whatever stands in the way of delivery. The technical records your domain needs for that are set up by bemailed itself.
Your recipients notice nothing about the switch
When you import a list, bemailed sends nothing on its own. Your recipients notice nothing about the change until you press send yourself.
That sounds like a detail. It is the point where most moves between providers go wrong. An import that fires confirmation emails at a thousand people costs you more trust in one morning than you build in a year.
Moved across in three steps
- Export your list from the old provider as a CSV file.
- Upload it to bemailed. You confirm that the recipients have given consent. Without that tick, no contact is created.
- Upload a screenshot of your old newsletter so the design comes along.
After that you send a test email to yourself and check that everything sits right. Only then does the first real send go out.
The difference to Mailchimp and Brevo
Mailchimp belongs to Intuit and sits in the United States. Brevo comes from France. Both are larger than bemailed and can do more, above all with very large lists and with connections to other systems.
The difference that matters for a German company is a different one. With a provider from the United States you have to justify the data transfer separately, and the data processing agreement is often an English document your data protection officer has to review first. With bemailed the data sits in Frankfurt and the agreement belongs to every plan, including the free one.
When you compare, ask every provider the same things: Where does the data sit, does the data processing agreement cost extra, what happens to my list during the import and how do I get out again if it does not fit.
Everything built around your brand, nothing off the shelf
Other tools greet you with a gallery of ready-made templates. Here every email starts with you: Your colours, your typeface, your logo, your tone.
The same goes for the text. Smart Mail does not write in a generic marketing voice. It writes in the voice you have set for your brand.
The difference shows up in the inbox. Your email sits there next to dozens of others. If it looks like a template the reader has already seen three times, it gets skipped. If it looks like you, it gets opened.
Who it is made for
It fits well if your list sits between a few dozen and a few thousand addresses and if it matters to you where your customers' data is held. It also fits when nobody in the company has time to learn a large tool.
It fits less well for very large lists. The same goes for a setup where the newsletter tool has to sit closely alongside a shop or customer system. Ask about that first rather than hoping.
Common questions
Is the free plan really free forever?
Yes. Free is not a trial, it is a plan that stays. It covers up to 250 recipients and 1,000 emails a month, with no credit card. A small line under your emails mentions bemailed, and that disappears on the paid plans.
Where is my recipients' data held?
On servers in Frankfurt. The data processing agreement belongs to every plan, including the free one.
Do I have to label a newsletter written with AI?
Usually not. From 2 August 2026 the EU AI Act asks for a label on AI texts that inform the public about matters of public interest. There is an exception that applies almost every time: If a person reads the text before it goes out and takes responsibility for it, no label is needed. For pure advertising the rule does not apply at all. Images are different. AI images that look real should be labelled.
Do I need double opt-in?
In Germany, in practice yes. It is built in: Anyone who signs up through your form gets a confirmation email and only lands in your list after the click. An unsubscribe link sits in every email.
Can I bring my list over from Mailchimp?
Yes, through a CSV file you export there. There is no direct connection. During the import you confirm that the recipients have given consent.
How do I cancel?
On a monthly plan, monthly. On an annual plan, as a consumer after the first year with one month's notice. The free plan runs without a contract.
The fastest way to find out whether it suits you is to use it. The free plan runs without a credit card and without an expiry date. You will find it at www.bemailed.de.
